Twitter suspends the Dignity and Justice account for publishing a video that recalls the ETA attacks

The president of Dignity and Justice, Daniel Goalkeeper, has denounced through its social networks that Twitter has closed for several days the account of the association of victims of terrorism “for offering a reward of 4,000 euros in exchange for information leading to the arrest of ETA members“.

As explained to digital freedom, what apparently has led Twitter to make this decision is the video that accompanied said announcement and in which images of the attacks committed by the terrorist group could be seen. “You can not share excessively graphic multimedia content (eg, serious injuries, torture) -says the message announcing the blocking of the account-. Exposure to gratuitous gory scenes can be harmful, especially if the content is posted with the intent to elicit cruel delight or sadistic pleasure.”

For Portero the explanation is at least surprising. “Do you find it offensive to remember the terrorist attacks? That is the history of Spain. What happens? Do we want to erase what ETA did for so many years? Do you find it offensive that this is displayed? That is the reality of our country,” says Portero.

After several days in which Dignity and Justice He has had to offer all kinds of explanations, finally they have managed to reactivate their account, although only under the promise of deleting the video, something that, according to Portero, they are not going to do in any case. In fact, this very morning they have posted it again on their social networks.

The double measuring stick

Notably indignant, the president of Dignidad y Justicia advances to digital freedom his intention to file a complaint with the Twitter headquarters in the US, since, in addition, he observes a more than evident double yardstick: “Why has the account of the terrorist Arnaldo Otegi and his parliamentary group Bildu never been suspended? They do nothing when they remember the ETA members and honor them, because that is freedom of expression. What about ours? If it is telling the reality!”

Although these types of Twitter messages may seem automatic, Portero is convinced that “they are sectarians and what they want is to hide from society the damage that ETA has done“. As he explains, “it is not the first time” that something similar has happened to him. “It has also happened to me with my personal account, but the association has already seemed too much to me,” he insists.

political reactions

After hearing the news, several politicians have shared their outrage. Among them, Jorge Buxade: “The speed with which control and censorship expands of networks by global progressives is appalling. And there are still those who have methodical doubts”. The Vice President of Political Action of Vox It also denounces that, with actions like this, “Twitter collaborates in the humiliation” of the victims of terrorism.

“I join the support for Daniel Portero and the Dignity and Justice Association -has published Rosa Ten in their social networks. Denouncing the silence about ETA’s crimes without judging is an obligation of all decent people. Report your accomplices as well.”
