Twitter suspends account ‘Shield & Friends’: “Attempt to mi …

The Twitter account of the extreme right-wing youth organization Schild & Vrienden, together with that of almost 70 similar organizations and individuals, has been suspended. In a statement to NBC News, Twitter reports that these white nationalist accounts have been suspended for “violating violent extremism policies.”

Dries Van Langenhove, Member of Parliament for Vlaams Belang and founder of Schild & Vrienden, believes that this is an attempt to silence “everyone with a migration-critical opinion”. Van Langenhove’s own account is still active.

Twitter users can now click on the Schild & Friends account to follow the rules of the social network. There it can be read, among other things, that users must not threaten or promote terrorism or violent extremism. It is not immediately clear which posts from the right-wing extremist organization were the reason for suspending the account.

The other suspended accounts, like Schild & Vrienden, are also part of the so-called Identity Movement in Europe. This includes the own account of Austrian Martin Sellner, who had also been removed from Facebook and Instagram for some time. Sellner leads the Identitären Bewegung Österreich (IBÖ) in Austria.

Earlier, Twitter also took action against some messages from US President Donald Trump.
