Twitter hasn’t paid the rent on its San Francisco headquarters since billionaire Elon Musk took control of the company in October, according to a new lawsuit filed on Thursday. The owner of the Twitter office, Columbia Property Trust, said the unpaid rent amounted to $136,260 (129,218 euros).
Elon Musk has been in a difficult situation since taking the helm of the social network, the cost and workforce reductions made under his direction have led to thousands of layoffs and the non-payment of some contractors. He explained that a massive drop in revenue was behind the cost-cutting measures and layoffs.
Amid an exodus of prominent Twitter accounts from the platform since Musk took over, such as CBS News, Musk has faced a number of controversies over his implementation of new policies such as Twitter Blue, which is supposed to be a premium version of the platform.
