Twitter is preparing the ground for the arrival of Spaces in the coming weeks for all of its users. Everyone can then, as proposed by Clubhouse, create a vocal room to exchange with other members in person.

By updating Twitter on iOS in version 8.56, users who took the time to browse the new features and fixes were pleasantly surprised to learn of the deployment of Spaces, the voice chat rooms that Twitter imagined to counter the emergence of the Clubhouse phenomenon. “Now you can tweet and talk. Spaces makes Twitter more alive ”, explains the company.
Still reserved for a few happy few
Except that, for now, not everyone can create their voice room to hold discussions and conferences. Indeed, the functionality is still limited to a few handpicked users, the time undoubtedly to bring it the last necessary modifications before its general deployment. Asked about this, Twitter released a date for making Spaces available to all its members: it will be for the month of April. The Verge, who reports the information, learned from a Twitter spokesperson who was holding a session on… Spaces, of course.
In the meantime, all Twitter users, whether Android or iOS, can join Spaces rooms created by those with the rights. It remains to be seen whether Twitter Spaces will be able to reproduce the enthusiasm generated by Clubhouse, or if this new feature will end up in the graveyard of abandoned ideas, such as Fleets which was inspired by the Stories offered on Snapchat and Instagram, without receiving the expected reception.
