Twitter rolls back update that made algorithmic timeline default – Tablets and phones – News

Twitter is rolling back an update to its app on iOS. In that update, users always got an algorithmic timeline when opening the app. Many users said they prefer to see a chronological timeline.

Twitter’s Rolled Back March 2022 Update

The rollback of the update happens one week after its release, this is how Twitter announces† “We’ve heard you and some always want to see the latest tweets first,” the company said. “We’ve rolled back the tabbed experience as we explore other options.”

In last week’s update to the iOS app, the ability to set the chronological timeline as the default disappeared. Instead, Twitter split the timeline into two tabs: by default, the algorithmic timeline appeared on the left and the chronological timeline on the right. Now that that has been reversed, the top right button with the star icon will allow users to set the chronological timeline as the default.

The intention was to also implement the update on Android and in the web version of Twitter, but that is not going through now either. What other options Twitter will explore now that it has rolled back this update is unknown.
