Twitter roars over Ted Cruz’s criticism of Clarrisa Ward wearing a burqa reporting on Afghanistan.

“At least Clarissa Ward didn’t run away to Cancun when the going got tough.”

It’s likely that everyone has, at some point in their lives, considered the danger American journalists face when working overseas, posted to lawless areas where it could be seen as a prize. to capture a well-known American, such as a CNN reporter. Yes, CNN is probably buying some sort of security device to surround them (we sure hope they will), but there’s no conceivable way it’s more than one or two people. In other words, not enough for a tough group that intends to win their “prize”.

Clarissa Ward is about as high as she gets when it comes to American “prices” waiting to be captured by a group who might like someone to “trade” down the road. There may have been a time when claiming U.S. citizenship protected our citizens abroad, the fear of retaliation was and still is real. But the days of assured security are long gone.

It must be scary as hell and those of us here commenting on the news recognize that we are on another level and on a higher level. So why is it so hard for Ted Cruz to understand that a reporter in a war zone would want to do everything possible to “blend in” and not offend the new “authority” who might find a CNN reporter helpful:

It takes a lot of bullshit and a lot of daring for Ted to talk about CNN encouraging the Taliban or anti-American forces. And then to recall the burqa. Let’s see Ted go over there in a suit and tie, without US military protection. Ted’s tweet didn’t go well at all:

CNN had its journalist’s back:

Yeah, it didn’t go well.
