Currently, the tweet quote feature is being tested on iOS. “When you tap the Retweet icon, select ‘Quote Tweet with a reaction’ to compose and customize your tweet with a reaction video or photo,” said Twitter.
Selecting the “Quote with reactions” button will take the user to a screen where they can take a photo or video to place a tweet or select one from the camera roll. One of the product leaders Twitter tried this feature against the announcement which allows netizens to see how the reaction will appear to users.
It’s worth noting that the tweet reactions feature is similar to the TikTok video replies that Instagram recently made for its Reels feature. In December 2020, Twitter has also added a new way to share tweets, namely adding the ability to embed tweets in Snapchat messages or stories.
Reported The Verge, Friday (7/1), several Twitter users have expressed concern that these reaction quote tweets could lead to harassment. Although it is relatively easy for the platform to moderate tweet ordinary quote, it is more difficult to scan photo or video content programmatically.
Additionally, it’s unclear whether users can opt out of reaction tweets as can be done with Twitter’s photo tagging feature or limit who can react to tweets. To date, Twitter did not immediately respond to The Verge’s questions about the ability to change who can react to tweets.
