Twitter prohibits links to networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon
Through the Twitter Help account, it became aware of this new practice which prohibits its users from promoting their networks on other platforms.
This includes links to Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post. Furthermore, Twitter guarantees that they will take action if this rule is not respected, by deleting tweets or suspending accounts completely.
We note that platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube are spared this Twitter ban.
But that is not all, as they also target third party social media link aggregators like linktr.ee and lnk.bio.
“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain platforms social network on Twitter,” the Twitter Help account said.
Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contain links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

What is and what is not prohibited?
Accounts created specifically to promote other social networks and their content will be suspended.
Examples of tweets that violate this new Twitter policy:
- “follow me @username on Instagram”
- “name of [email protected]”
- “check my Facebook profile – facebook.com/username”
Penalties also include attempts such as substituting a “.” from “dot” to avoid creating a link and sharing screenshots of your username on a prohibited social media platform.

The platform To explain on its help site that “whether violations of this policy are an isolated incident or first offense” punishments would range from delete one or more tweets, up to the temporary blocking of the account.
BUT if you go against this policy again, “any subsequent infraction will result in permanent suspension”.
Twitter prohibits links to the aforementioned social networks not only in tweets, but also in biographies and/or name of the users account.
So, if your bio says “Follow me on IG @username”, you better delete it or your account may be suspended.

Twitter has said it will still allow cross-posting of content from any social media platform.
“We recognize that some social networks offer alternative experiences to Twitter and allow their users to post content to Twitter from those platforms,” he explains.
For example, when you post a photo or video to Instagram you have the option to repost to other networks, including Twitter. if you do, this content would not be banned or blocked.
