San Francisco Twitter wants to allow users in the future to earn money with exclusive content. At a presentation for investors on Thursday (local time), the company from San Francisco, California, explained the new function called “Super Follows”. For them, users should be able to see the content of successful Twitter accounts that are hidden from other users for a monthly fee. It shouldn’t matter whether the providers are companies, celebrities or private individuals.

As examples of possible exclusive content, newsletters only for subscribers, videos, offers and discount campaigns were given. Social network users and investors have long been urging Twitter to introduce a subscription model. The announcement comes at a time when providers like Patreon, Substack or Onlyfans are already allowing users to convert their popularity into cash. The new function also opens up new advertising opportunities for Twitter. How much the company intends to withhold from the amounts paid was initially not known.

Trying out user-financed offers such as “Super Follows” allows users to be supported directly by their audience. This also creates an incentive for the creators of the contributions to offer content “that their audience loves,” said the company. Another product for the future, which Twitter has christened “Revenue”, should allow users to send paid or free newsletters to followers. According to Twitter, the new function should not be available immediately.

In new community groups, people should also be able to get together according to their interests. In addition, Twitter wants to give users the opportunity to have aggressive or spam-spreading accounts automatically blocked for them. In the past few months, Twitter had already introduced new functions such as panel discussions under the name “Spaces” and messages that disappeared by themselves called “Fleets”.

The company promised more news in the coming months. The company is aiming for sales of more than 7.5 billion US dollars (about 6.2 billion euros) in 2023, last year sales were 3.7 billion dollars (about 3 billion euros).
