Twitter now lets you pin DM conversations

Twitter is slowly continuing to improve its direct messaging interface amid a tidal wave of product updates over the past year. Twitter is now rolling out pinned DMs, the company announced. This feature was previously only available to Twitter Blue subscribers, but it is now available to everyone on Android, iOS and the Web.

The functionality does not seem to be fully deployed yet. I have access to it on the Android app, but not on the Twitter web app. On the Android app, you can swipe to the side of a conversation to bring up a pin, and if you tap it, the conversation will be moved to a new “Pinned Conversations” section at the top of your DM inbox.

Pins could be a useful way to keep a handful of conversations easily accessiblealthough I can see how some people might be disappointed knowing that you can only keep six conversations at the top of the list.

Now that pins are rolling out more widely, there are two features that are currently exclusive to Twitter Blue: longer video uploads and NFT profile pictures. As a reminder, Twitter Blue costs $2.99 per month, and is only available in the United States.

Last year, Twitter made some long-awaited changes to DMs, including the ability to forward a tweet to multiple people at once in a one-to-one conversation. Instead of timestamping individual posts with the date and time, Twitter has also started grouping posts by day to “reduce timestamp clutter.”
