Twitter killer sentenced to death

The verdict has just fallen for the “Twitter killer”, a young Japanese man who murdered several people who posted suicidal notes on the blue bird social network. As Vice reports, the Tokyo District Court has pronounced a death sentence for Takahiro Shiraishi.

The facts date back to 2017. While police investigated the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman in Tokyo, officers discovered nine dismembered, decaying corpses in Takahiro Shiraishi’s home in Zama town, southwest of Tokyo. Tokyo.

The then 27-year-old was arrested on the spot. According to his testimony, the victims had posted suicidal messages on Twitter. He took advantage of their depressed state to offer to help them die. Between August and October 2017, Takahiro killed eight women and one man, aged 15 to 26.

Extremely vicious acts

According to Judge Naokuni Yano, these murders perpetrated by Takahiro Shiraishi are “extremely vicious in the history of crime”.

Reason for which the court pronounced a death sentence against him. The sentence was passed after the killer pleaded guilty.

Also according to Vice, the trial proceeded taking into account the defense argument that the victims wanted to be killed. The conversations they had with Shiraishi on Twitter helped substantiate this claim. However, the young man, currently 30, said they suffered before he died.

It should be noted that before his indictment in 2018, Takahiro Shiraishi underwent a psychiatric examination. This approach made it possible to dismiss the defense request to postpone the trial on the grounds of the accused’s mental incompetence.
