Twitter is working on ‘unmention’ feature to avoid unwanted attention – IT Pro – News

Twitter is working on three new features that will help users avoid unwanted attention. One of these is an ‘unmention’ button, which makes it possible to leave another person’s conversation. For now, Twitter only shows concept images of the functions.

Twitter product designer Dominic Camozzi late on the social medium see concepts of three new features that should give users more control over posts that mention them. First of all, the unmention button should give users the option to unsubscribe from conversations they are tagged in.

In addition, if it were up to Camozzi, it will be more difficult for users to mention people in tweets if they are not followed by them. Users get a special notification if they are tagged by someone they don’t follow. If the unmention function is used, the user will not be able to name the user in future messages either. The designer also plans to expand notifications about frequent mentions.

Finally, he suggests that Twitter users should be able to manually prevent mentions from specific accounts. Users could even choose to disable mentions completely for one, three or seven days

Camozzi asks users to provide feedback through the social medium. It is not clear whether the new features will actually become part of Twitter. The concept is said to be still at an early stage.
