A few months ago, we learned that Twitter was testing a feature to give users the ability to vote negatively on comments. That being said, this test was limited to iOS devices. Today, according to a tweet from researcher Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter has decided to extend its test to its web version. Some users can now take advantage of this negative vote button.
It’s unclear if anything has changed from the feature that launched earlier this year on iOS devices. Twitter claimed that using this button is just meant to let people know what kind of comments or responses you may not like, which is why you used the negative vote button in the first place.
It should be readily available to everyone
This is unlike other platforms like Reddit, on which comments that get a lot of negative votes find themselves relegated to the bottom positions in the comments list, or even are simply hidden. If a previous Twitter announcement is to be believed, negative votes will not be displayed publicly.
This means that these votes won’t affect the order of comments and responses, but, as said, it’s unclear if that, or anything for that matter, has changed from the last test. It would be perfect if Twitter could take a similar approach to other platforms, hiding or pushing the most negative comments down the list, but we’ll have to wait and see how the situation unfolds once the feature is up and running. available to everyone.
