Twitter is already closing its verification program – ICT actualité

Just a week after Twitter opened its verification form, so that anyone who wanted to, could request a ‘check mark’, the social network again hit the pause button.

Twitter launched its verification program last week. This meant that anyone wishing for this kind of ‘tick’ could request it. Until recently, it was the company itself that decided who could be considered for ‘verified’ status.

But this form therefore seems to be a decoy. ‘We are inundated with verification requests,’ the company now explains in a tweet, ‘so we will temporarily stop the flow of requests to allow us to process the ones that have been sent to us.’

Influence tick

The idea behind the check mark is that the person talking about bitcoin on your timeline is indeed Elon Musk for example and not someone pretending to be him ( unless Twitter is hacked, of course). In accordance with current rules, your account can be verified, if it falls into one of the following six categories: government, businesses, brands and organizations, media and journalists, leisure, sports and games, activists and other influencers.
