Meta Platforms announced Sunday that it is testing a monthly subscription service, called Meta Verified, that will allow users to verify their account with a government identification number and earn a blue badge, as part of the company’s plans to help content creators grow and increase their following.
The Facebook and Instagram subscription package, which will be launched this week, also includes additional protection against impersonation at a price starting at $11.99 per month on the website, or $14.99 per month on Apple’s iOS and Android operating systems.
It is scheduled to launch Meta Verified this week in Australia and New Zealand, and the launch will continue gradually in other countries later.
Meta’s monthly subscription move follows a similar move from Twitter, which last month announced that Twitter Blue, which includes additional features besides the blue verification mark, will be available at $11 per month.
