Twitter has acquired the Breaker podcast app

Twitter a confirmed the acquisition of Breaker, a podcast application focused on social interaction, to develop and improve the new functionality of Twitter Spaces.

Breaker allows users to find, discover, manage, and subscribe to podcasts. In addition, it also has its own social network which allows users to follow their friends, add “likes”, as well as comment and share their favorite podcasts.

Four years after the app’s launch, Breaker was acquired by Twitter. “We are eager to help create new experiences for the Twitter community”, the company says in a blog post.

“At Breaker, we are truly passionate about audio communication and we are inspired by the way Twitter makes public conversations easier for people around the world. We’re in awe of Twitter’s entrepreneurial spirit and excited about the new experiences the team is creating. “

Leah Culver, co-founder of Breaker, confirmed that her team will be working on Twitter Spaces, a new Twitter feature that offers audio chats with other users in real time via virtual rooms.

Unfortunately for Breaker users, the iOS and Android apps will be shut down on January 15th. The company advises users to move their podcasts to other platforms before this date using the Export OPML File option.
