Days after it officially became Elon Musk’s property and was removed from the list, the online platform Twitter fired nearly half of its employees. The drastic changes have led to a “large-scale collapse in revenue,” admits Musk himself, who wrote on the social network himself that, in his opinion, the reason is the pressure on advertisers by activists.
“Unfortunately, we have no choice when the company loses over $ 4 million a day,” Musk wrote on the news of the drastic layoffs. He added that each employee was offered a salary equal to three months.
The company says layoffs are significantly lower among the team responsible for fighting disinformation. Meanwhile, according to company officials, some of whom previously, people affected by the purge include people from communications, content, human rights violations monitoring, and other teams, along with people from product teams and engineering.
So far, Musk has kept his promise to completely change Twitter, both as a business model and as a positioning. For just over a week he has been the owner and executive director of the company, during which: he proposed that some of the existing functions be paid; officially declares its long-standing intention to deregulate the platform; proposed the return of people expelled from the previous management; in his spare time he quarreled with numerous politicians, the overwhelming majority of them from the Democratic Party.
