The attention of Twitter users has been growing focused on Elon Musk since buying the social networking service in October. Now it seems they see nothing more Musk on Twitter.
Monday, several Twitter users REMARK that their “For You” feeds on the website were filled with tweets and replies from the tech billionaire, save for the occasional promoted tweet. Users reported that their feeds were filled with recent tweets from Musk, including accounts that did not follow him.
Why this is happening was unclear, and Twitter representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The oddity comes less than a week after netizens using the social network reported several common issues on February 8 affecting their experience on the platform, including losing access to direct messages, receiving error messages that they were “over the daily tweeting limit” and that ‘they had to schedule tweets in order to post them.
On the same day, Twitter announced its intention to start charging $100 per month for a “basic tier” to access Twitter’s application programming interface, which developers and researchers use to analyze public tweets. On February 10, Twitter also rolled out the ability to tweet 4000 charactersrather than the typical 280 characters, for US Twitter Blue subscribers.
Musk’s decision to charge for features that are usually free has angered users of the platform, especially because the changes are being made quickly and without notice. Twitter has fumbled the rollout of an updated verification system last year, which allowed users to get a coveted blue tick if they paid a subscription fee.
