Twitter has removed two videos from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. In it he ignores the measures taken to combat the coronavirus.
The videos showed Bolsonaro walking down the street in the Brazilian city of Brasilia. There he went among the people and addressed a man in the market. “We have to keep working,” the president told the man in the video. “People are dying, but that’s up to God, we can’t help it.”
Twitter said in a statement that it has recently changed the rules for messages that go against health advice from official bodies. Twitter also addresses messages that increase the risk of transmission of the corona virus.
Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are seeing an increase in fake news posts and disinformation about the virus. Facebook also announced earlier that these types of messages are going to be active to clear.
Ignoring advice from health experts, Bolsonaro launched a campaign last week that undermines stringent corona measures in Brazilian regions. According to the president, who dismisses the virus as “a small flu”, “unnecessarily strict measures” are being taken. This includes keeping a distance. These rules, he said, would destroy the economy.
In Brazil, more than 4,200 people have tested positive for corona. Official figures show that 136 Brazilians have died from the effects of the COVID-19 virus.
