Twitter has changed the iOS app interface (iphone) and now “forces” users to view tweets in non-chronological order. The new “For you” tab displays posts that are randomly recommended by the platform’s algorithm.
The change caused a stir on the social network, with users uneasy about the new organization of tweets and reports of a large amount of timeline spam.
The new tab has been set as the default view on the Twitter home screen, which forces users to switch whenever they want to view only posts from friends.
Remember that the old star button is still available on Android and Spider web.
As it was before
Before the update, there was a flashy button on the top right of the app, which made it possible to switch between “For you” and “Most recent” tweets. And this information was saved in the profile by default, even if the app was closed and opened on mobile.
Twitter’s new approach is to navigate through two side tabs. In them, you can switch from the “For you” menu to “Follow”.
The first is similar to the “Per You” from TikTok — even the name is the same as the rival social network.
like now
The card shows posts from followed accounts mixed in with those recommended by Twitter bots, just out of order. That is, something from the past week, from an unknown profile, can appear at the top of the timeline if Twitter understands that the information is relevant.
The “Follow” tab, on the other hand, only shows posts from people you’ve added to your profile, the good old-fashioned way.
Last month, CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the main timeline should allow for easier access between top, latest, trending and followed topics. At the time, he also said the company would make the changes soon. And now the updates are coming forever.
Apparently, Twitter is taking a similar path to TikTok, prioritizing its algorithmic timeline. It is not yet known whether the Twitter bots will have the same functioning, but in the competitor network the system “learns” what the user likes and what he usually sees. And with that, bring more suggested content to the “For You” feed to boost video engagement.
It is not the first time that the bluebird platform tries to innovate in this sense. Previously, Twitter tried to apply a similar feature. It allowed you to swipe between “Home” and “Latest Tweets” to switch between views. But a flurry of disapproval from netizens has pushed the company back.
Users didn’t like it
“I don’t want to see your algorithm picks! We went through this a year ago! The ‘last’ presence on startup is one of the reasons I keep going to Twitter, Instagram or other social media. Thanks for the heads up. I should turn off automatic updates!” commented one user in response to Twitter.
Another profile explained, “The ‘For You’ tab gives the feed 75% more spam, in other words, I see tweets from people I don’t care about and don’t follow.”
And there are many people who ask for a return to a previous model: “IT’S HORRIBLE, put it back as it was, chronological. I don’t need Twitter to decide how I see tweets”
And of course the memes could not be missing. One user posted, “Why do they keep messing with Twitter? What’s this ‘For you’ card? — along with a picture of the character Squidward rampaging.
Another simply used an excerpt from a video of actor Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) to express his opinion on the new film.
Section “Twitter “For you”: [fala: É um grande cocô de cachorro].
Once again, Bob Esponja was used to represent, in an amusing way, the driving disappointment imposed on the app’s home screen. “Twitter now has a page for you” – followed by a video showing each character leaving the scene.
