The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, concluded her trip to the United States yesterday, Thursday. Ayuso returns home after a five-day tour that, as we already told the other day here, has gone completely unnoticed by the US media. In Spain, a little more attention has been paid to it, but not much more than the Madrid president would have gotten if she had stayed in her office in Puerta del Sol.
For official purposes, Ayuso’s trip ends with 13 institutional meetings and 17 attentions or interviews with the media, according to the accounts of the Community of Madrid. Figures are the beautiful part of the story; There is another part that does not shine so brightly: the institutional meetings have been of a low profile and interviews, what is called interviews, there has only been one, that of Telemadrid with the White House in the background.
Ayuso says that he returns to Madrid with “homework” to do and some lessons learned. “Among the issues that I take with me as homework is to put an end to a situation that I was unaware of until now, which is how little is sometimes said about Madrid and the region in North America,” Ayuso confesses. The little that is said about Madrid and the little that has been said about it, we add.
In any case, on his Twitter account, Ayuso has been even more explicit.
Main conclusions of the trip to the USA:
– We must promote Madrid in the US, make it more international and bilingual.
– High taxes and excessive Spanish bureaucracy weigh down investment.
– We must help more Spanish SMEs in Latin America. pic.twitter.com/YPmRZgRzCg

Actually, we can safely say that the balance road trip ayusiano for the United States is not exactly to breastfeed. Ayuso returns home with duties but without new investments for Madrid. He also brings the occasional controversy on his shoulder, such as the one that has led to his criticism of the Pope and the indigenous movement in Latin America, which he describes as “new communism.” In addition, in this week of passion for the United States, Ayuso has competed directly with the PP convention shadowing Casado. If an image summarizes Ayuso’s trip, it is the photo that was taken at the foot of the statue of Isabel La Católica in Washington in front of the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS).
However, what gives the real measure of the significance and repercussion of Ayuso’s trip is what happened in his last institutional act, the meeting with congressmen of Hispanic origin in the Capitol. It was supposed to be the most important act of the entire tour, but it was hardly an anecdote: of the 38 congressmen summoned to meet with Ayuso, only five attended (and some of them by teleconference). The president of was just 10 minutes in one of the annexed buildings of the Capitol.
Quite a role that of the president probably caused by his statements on indigenous people. Not surprisingly, some of the Hispanic representatives on Capitol Hill are of indigenous origin. Moreover, the president of the Hispanic caucus, the Californian congressman of Mexican origin, Raúl Ruiz, disagreed with Ayuso’s words during the meeting, according to a source familiar with the meeting cited by EFE.
But, what balance do the tweeters of Ayuso’s tour make? There is everything, but there are many who do not quite see sense of this trip. We offer a selection of some of the tweets that we have seen throughout this week and that could well serve as a summary of this peculiar tour.
You use taxpayer money to go to the United States to promote your policies and try to overshadow Casado and Sánchez and only the Spanish media pay attention to your ideology and where you rule.
Nefarious strategies with everyone’s money. #Ayuso pic.twitter.com/imlHRcHhkY

Ayuso in the United States is like tourists who leave Spain and look for a place to eat a paella. pic.twitter.com/xtzCvZdP49

Díaz Ayuso sets up a chiringuito in Madrid to promote Spanish and goes to the United States to insult Spanish-speaking countries.

He proves again and again that a lot to talk but little to do. She goes to the US for a few days and all she gets is that they talk about her because of what she says, but she does not contribute anything of benefit to her country.
