For a short time on Thursday, both Twitter and Instagram were unavailable to numerous users. This may have played into the hands of some apps.
Thousands of users could not access Instagram on July 14, how Reuters reports. If they switched to Twitter to possibly find out more by searching for the hashtag #instagramdown, they might have noticed problems there as well. Because the short message service was down for a while on July 14. However, there is no evidence of a connection with the failed takeover by Elon Musk. Both services are now available again. But the failure, which is occurring at least on Twitter worldwide, could have played in cards like TikTok.
Issues accessing Twitter and Instagram
Meta and Twitter press teams were quick to respond to the apps outages. Metas said:
We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal and apologize for any inconvenience.
Twitter initially announced – almost ironically on the platform itself – that there was an outage. A little over three hours later, the short message service was confirmed to have fixed the issue.
And we’re back! We had some trouble with our internal systems that impacted many of you globally. Twitter should be up and running as expected — sorry for the interruption.

During the outage, many users were on TikTok to share that Twitter is down. Overall, the app should have enjoyed increased use during the outages. In any case, users now spend most of their social media reception time on TikTok.
It is not yet clear what caused the failures. However, such problems, if they are long-term, can lead to financial losses and even user losses. Meta had to experience this painfully in autumn 2021, when Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger were down for hours.
