Twitter again allows you to retweet a message without going through the “quote” function

The social network is putting an end to its limits put in place to control the number of retweets in the run-up to the US presidential elections.

The social network then announced a temporary limit to the “retweet” function, by imposing the “quote” function, which allows users to add a comment to the messages they share. This December 17, the platform announces the end of this restriction.

Now, and as was the case before October 21, each user can choose to retweet or quote a post, directly using the button below the content. To get around the limit put in place by Twitter, it was necessary to use the function created to comment on a tweet, while leaving the field empty of any text.

Efficiency not evaluated

The constraints put in place by social networks, in particular Facebook and Twitter, have so far not seen their effectiveness against false information publicly assessed by these platforms.

Other measures taken in connection with the US presidential election include warnings on publications containing false statements. With relative efficiency: at Facebook, they have reduced the sharing of such content by only 8%, according to internal documents mentioned by the BuzzFeed site in November.
