In the past few hours, Twitch has permanently banned the hugely popular streamer, known as Dr Disrespect and numerous sources confirm this. Some suspect that the reason is related to numerous copyright infringements continuously ignored by the streamer, despite platform warnings. The streamer “ShannonZKiller”, however, added that the problem is serious. Regarding the reason why Dr Disrespect was suspended and for how long, a Twitch representative intervened explaining that, as per regulation, when the platform has evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of community guidelines or terms of service, action must be taken. “This is true of all streamers regardless of their status or importance in the community” He adds.
At the moment, Twitch is refunding subscriptions from subscribers to the channel of Dr Disrespect and is also removing its custom emoticons – usable in chat during its live broadcasts. Apparently, the platform has also revoked partner status from the streamer by Twitch. So the reason is certainly worrying.
However, over the years, Dr Disrespect has earned a reputation for user “immune” to sanctions, due to a lack of punishment for his not always appropriate and responsible conduct, while other streamers have received a lesson for similar behavior. More recently, it also has widespread and also supported theories, without foundation, about the Coronavirus conspiracy. Not even in this case did he receive a public penalty, despite the example of another well-known streamer, Kaceytron, who instead was suspended for making misplaced jokes about the current pandemic. Without forgetting that, last year, Dr Disrespect was temporarily suspended by Twitch after filming a minor in a public toilet during E3. But this was theonly case of suspension of its channel from the platform.
Therefore, the character of Dr Disrespect has become popular for his behaviors, for his “unethical” comments and for his humor, often exaggerated. Being now a star on Twitch, he had also gotten an agreement for the development of some TV programs. Earlier this year, in fact, he announced that he had signed a multi-year deal for streaming exclusively on Twitch. According to some sources, this deal was worth up to $ 10 million a year. Who knows if the virtual entertainment doctor will be able not to demolish his career with his own hands.
