Twitch: data leak was due to incorrect server settings, login data does not seem to be leaked – Computer – News

Such a mistake in a large organization would user data really shouldn’t have happened. It is well known that people make mistakes, but with these kinds of adjustments you have, I assume, several eyes that watch before something like this is implemented?

The worst part is that this bug went undetected for so long that a bunch of hackers more than 125GB could collect data. The first part of the dataset is 125GB, where they have so far left out a lot of user data, they say a second part is also coming.

Let’s assume for a moment that something 300GB total of data has been stolen that is on a 100mbit connection inside 7 hours and 10 minutes to bring in. On a 1000mbit connection is this about 43 minutes. We have no idea whether this was obtained via TOR/VPN or the like, so that the maximum speed of a connection may not be attainable.

But then you are only talking about the time of the download, how long did it take for hackers to discover this?
