Twitch and Facebook Gaming exploited their views during the pandemic

Twitch and Facebook Gaming have become the main platforms where video game streamers mainly broadcast. Thanks to the quarantine and confinement due to COVID-19, these platforms exploded in a matter of live viewers. This is how they report it StreamElements and its analytics partner Rainmaker.gg, in its report for January 2021 compared to that of January 2020.

According to the report, both platforms grew 117% compared to last year. Twitch reached two billion hours watched, the previous year it only had 941 million hours watched. For Facebook Gaming, 439 million hours were exceeded and last year it only had 201 million hours viewed.

As can be seen in the images, as of March and with the widespread confinement in the countries due to the spread of COVID-19, the number of hours viewed by platform users began to increase exponentially.

Other statistics that the report released was that the main category that users see is Chatting (Just Chatting). Then the next game on the list is Rust, which surprised half the world by returning to popularity thanks to Egoland event, in which multiple Spanish-speaking streamers created an in-game server to coexist and compete in the title. Thanks to this, Rust, with 189 million views, snatched second place from League of Legends which has 163 million views.

The first time Rust was among the most popular games was in 2013 and after that it remained in the top 20 games with the highest number of viewers. Thanks to Egoland, it can be seen that the title suffered a drastic increase in the number of viewers, because not only did the participants of the event begin to stream the game; Other figures from the community also mounted and created their alternate versions of the event that was happening on the platform when they saw this new trend.

As for Facebook, there is no record of the most popular games that were streamed on the platform. However, on the page PUBG Mobile is seen in the lead with 157 thousand active viewers, followed by GTA V with almost 47 thousand viewers.

In terms of personalities, the ones that stood out the most in the same period on Twitch are:
• xQcOw: Professional Overwatch gamer
• auronplay: Known for making YouTube videos
• TheGrefg: Youtuber and video game streamer
