Minnesota Twins infielder Miguel Sanó will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and there is no timetable for his return, manager Rocco Baldelli said Tuesday.
Sano was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday. He suffered the injury on April 26 while celebrating Minnesota’s 5-4 victory over the Tigers, a game decided on the last play.
Sanó returned to play on Saturday but left early due to knee pain.
“He tried to get over it, but he did something during the course of that game and we had to take him out,” Baldelli said.
Sano wasn’t in the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon before the Twins faced the Orioles. Baldelli said the procedure will take place later this week.
“He was definitely in favor of doing this, and I think our medical staff agree with him,” Badelli said.
It’s unclear how long Sanó will be on the sidelines.
