Twins born from frozen embryos 30 years ago

Twins they were born from embryos frozen 30 years ago a few days ago in Tennessee, USA.

This scientific milestone has been framed as having the longest waiting time since it was frozen at -128°C in liquid nitrogen on April 22, 1992.

3 decades later

It was Rachel Ridgeway (33) who adopted the frozen embryos to give birth Twins Lydia Ann and Timothy Ronald on October 31st.

Los embryos they were kept delivered by an anonymous couple (the mother was 34) who allegedly used IVF. In 2007 they were donated to the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) for another couple to use.

This institution hopes that, with this news, more people will be encouraged to adopt embryos despite its long wait.

“The decision (…) to adopt them embryos should reassure patients who wonder if anyone would be willing to adopt the embryos they created 5, 10 or 20 years ago,” said doctor John David Gordon, who transferred the embryos.

New record

Previously, a 24-year-old and a 27-year-old embryo were the oldest used successfully. Both were also delivered by the same clinic.

speaking to Cnnthe children’s father, Philip Ridgeway, said it was “something extraordinary” and that “in a way, they are our oldest children, even though they are our youngest children”.

And it is that the Ridgeways have four other children, eight, six, three and almost two years old.
