On the day of the 2nd, these signs were stuck on the glass of the revolving door of LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul. It is the 18th day after 30 or so building cleaners who received notification of group dismissal entered the lobbying district, requesting succession of employment. Since the day before, food entry into the interior, electricity, and heating were cut off, so he complained of cold and hunger.

The LG Twin Tower branch of the public transport union and the National Engineering Commission held a press conference in front of the Yeouido Twin Tower at 12:00 noon on this day and urged permission to bring meals into the building, heat, and supply electricity.

The union said, “One month has passed since I received the notification of group dismissal. I asked S&I Corporation to succeed in employment and asked for interviews, but all of them were rejected,” said the union. “Workers who exercise the right to strike as the last resort are on the first day of the New Year 2021. “I couldn’t eat a meal all day and starved.”

He pointed out that “everything was cut off during agricultural growth, electricity and heating were cut off. Time passed while meetings with immediate family members were blocked, and even lunch boxes brought by human rights group activists and citizens were rejected.”

The lunch box was not available and all the outlets that used to charge cell phones were blocked.” “We are like weeds, but the more we step on “I will take root and hold my heart and achieve employment succession.”

According to the union, from the eve of the first day of the new year, food and meals were completely stopped due to agricultural growth in the lobby on the first floor of the Twin Tower building. Workers couldn’t eat properly and proceeded to the cold floor where electricity was cut off. An official from the union pointed out, “This is the treatment that ignores even the basic rights specified in the UN Human Rights Convention.”

After the press conference was over, lunchboxes from unions and civic groups were brought into the building through mediation of the police.

An official from S&I Corporation said, “It was necessary to respond to the unauthorized occupation on the first day of the strike, so we announced in advance that the import of external goods was prohibited. “I have confirmed that the occupation will not end for a short period of time, and I brought in meals and restored the electricity supply,” he explained.

More than 80 Twin Tower cleaning workers were notified of contract termination at the end of November last year. This is because S&I Corporation, an LG subsidiary in charge of building management, terminated the contract with Jisoo I&C, a service provider. Workers who are continuing to be sacked belong to Jisoo I&C.

Workers are raising suspicion that the service contract itself was terminated because of creating and joining the union in October 2019.
