This Monday is Flag Day and twenty immigrants are sworn in as new US citizens aboard the Wavertree at Pier 16 in Manhattan.
New York Citizenship and Immigration Services District Director Tamika S. Gray swore the oath of allegiance, and Capt. Jonathan Boulware, President and CEO of the South Street Seaport Museum, offered welcoming remarks to the new citizens.
The 20 new Americans hail from 17 countries, including Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Spain.

“This day is very important to me, I come from Colombia. I decided to come to this country first because of my family, they brought me here and also because of the opportunities it offers. Now I have the honor of having this uniform.”
Five of the new citizens are current or retired members of the United States Armed Forces.
