In front of an audience voluntarily limited because of the sanitary instructions, the club of aeromodelling of Chartres (CAC) gathered twenty-eight drone pilots, Saturday, September 12, on a ground of 200 m², in Saint-Germain-en-Gâtine. The competitors came from Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) and Agen (Lot-et-Garonne) for this national competition.
The club attracts many competitors because it is ranked first in France by the federation, according to several criteria.
Yesterday, the athletes faced each other in pools of only four drivers, for technical questions. “The frequencies can be scrambled if too many drones are flying together,” says an organizer.
The approximately 600m circuit, which changes with each competition, includes slaloms, turns, tunnels and straights. The pilots, seated, virtual reality headsets over their eyes, are thus timed. 400g machines can reach 240 km / h, but obstacles limit them to 120 km / h. “There are accelerations at 11 G
», Emphasizes the organizer. According to him, an amateur can quickly master the drone by following a few basic rules. The complete equipment costs more than 1,000 €, between the drone, the helmet and the remote control.
