Twenty couples wed in Miami after passing Marriage Equal Act – NBC Miami (51)

“We are committed to being together forever,” said this Saturday Keiner Bener and Paul López who met 20 years ago in Costa Rica and in 2018 joined their lives in marriage.

Both husbands said: “What I feel right now is the security that now I can be sure that I can represent my husband in sickness, in health, at all times.”

This Saturday, as if for the first time, with barely perceptible emotion and a twinkle in their eyes, they once again said yes to life.

“For us, it’s being able to share the same joy with others as children of God, so it’s the fulfillment of a dream,” said Bener and López, who were one of 22 couples who met this Saturday at a Miami Beach hotel to celebrate their union of their life in freedom.

“It is a celebration and a relief to be able to marry into the LGBT community,” said SAVE Executive Director Orlando González.

The event organized by the organization SAVE, recognized for leading the protection of the LGBTIQ+ community in South Florida, celebrated the law that protects equal marriage signed by President Biden last Tuesday at the White House.

“We have a variety of couples, we have couples who are getting married for the first time and others who have married in the past,” said SAVE Executive Director Orlando González.

With this bill, same-sex or interracial marriages will now not risk losing legal recognition, and states will not be required to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
