Watch the summary of NEC – FC Twente
FC Twente has earned three points from an attractive duel with NEC in Nijmegen. Last season’s number three booked a 1-2 victory.
After some good preparatory work by Sayfallah Ltaief, Sam Lammers quickly put Twente 0-1 up with a tap-in. Lars Unnerstall then kept Rober González from equalizing with a great reflex, but a little later Kodai Sano made it 1-1 with a good header.
Twente was unlucky with a header from Daan Rots that did not completely cross the line and saw Bas Kuipers head the ball onto the crossbar in the rebound. The lead came after the break via Alec van Hoorenbeeck: the Belgian centre-back was overlooked at a corner and headed in: 1-2. NEC pressed for a while, but chances failed to materialise.

Lammers in particular made a good impression in the duel. After his goal he continued to stand out with nice actions and good preparatory work.
Extra change
During the match, FC Twente made a so-called ‘white substitution’. Youri Regeer got injured on his head and had to go to the side. It didn’t cost Twente a substitution, and according to the new rules, that meant that NEC was also allowed to make an extra change.
On Tuesday, Twente will play the return match against RB Salzburg at home in the third preliminary round of the Champions League. The first leg was lost 2-1 in Salzburg.
