TINA can win prizes for the best musical, the best direction, the best design, the best script and the best choreography.
The production competes in both the best musical and the best direction category Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Jagged Little Pill. Adrienne Warren has a chance to win the best lead actress award for her role as Tina Turner. Warren takes on Karen Olivo and Elizabeth Stanley in this category.
TINA is about the life of the now eighty-year-old singer. The musical premiered in London in 2018 and has also been performed in the Netherlands since the beginning of February. However, the performance has been halted since March, just like the other international productions.
Grand Horizons, The Inheritance, Sea Wall/ A Life, Slave Play in The Sound Inside have been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play.
Blair Underwood, Ian Barford and Tom Hiddleston, among others, have a chance to win a Tony Award for their leading roles in plays on Broadway. Among women, this applies to Mary-Louise Parker, Laura Linney and Audra McDonald, among others.
The nominations were announced Thursday by James Monroe Iglehart. He won a Tony Award in 2014 for his performance as a Genie in Aladdin. The date of this year’s (virtual) ceremony is not yet known.
