With six straight SHL defeats, hopes in Malmö were for the gloomy trend to break after the Christmas break.
But that wasn’t the case and it’s now down to twelve straight home defeats after a bad story for Malmö at home to Frölunda.
Malmö lost the lead in the second period and before the last act, Frölunda led 3–2. But it looked to be a dream start after the break for Malmö when Emil Sylvegård put in the puck. The Malmö players cheered in the belief they had scored an equaliser, but the referees quickly signed off for video review of the goal.
And after several minutes of reviewing the video, news came that Sylvegård had inserted the puck with the help of his glove. Something the Malmö striker didn’t agree with.
Malmö continued to chase an equalizer and were far from harmless. But with about five minutes to go, they received a verdict they weren’t at all happy with. Frölunda’s Mats Rosseli Olsen went down – too easily according to the Malmö camp – and Matias Lassen had to sit in the penalty area for two minutes.
In the end, Frölunda won with 3–2 and Malmö’s 12th consecutive home defeat meaning the team are still cemented at the bottom.
– Game quite well anyway. There’s a lot of stuff to bring, but we’re a little sloppy on some of their goals. He has been with us all season and we have to clean him up if we want to score points, says Fredrik Händemark in C More.
Another team besides Malmö that has a less flattering losing streak is HV71. At home against Linköping, they lost 0-3 and suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.
