TVN will belong to an even larger media concern

The European Commission has given its unconditional consent to the merger of two American concerns – Discovery, the current owner of the TVN group, and WarnerMedia – informs the Wirtualnemedia.pl portal. The transaction is to be finalized in mid-2022.

After completing all formalities, which are to be finalized in the middle of next year, the Discovery group, together with WarnerMedia, currently owned by AT&T, will be available in more than 220 countries and 50 language areas. Thus, the TVN station will belong to one of the largest media companies, which will include brands such as the American television CNN, HBO, Discovery, Eurosport and Cartoon Network.

David Zaslav, the current manager of the Discovery group, is to become the president of the merged companies. After the merger is approved by the general meeting of shareholders, but also after all “additional, standard conditions are met, including approvals from other regulators,” the AT&T concert is to become the majority shareholder, with 71 percent values. The remaining 29 percent. shares will remain in the hands of Discovery shareholders.

The Discovery Group has been the owner of TVN for four years. Then, in 2018, the American company bought the previous owner of Scripps Networks Interactive for $ 14.6 billion.

WarnerMedia, which owns the production rights under the Warner Bros. banner, has in its library such titles as “Game of Thrones”, “Harry Potter”, “The Sopranos” and productions from the DC comic book world.
