Steadily increasing this year… October MAU 8.09 million
Netflix and other OTTs are not continuously increasing
However, there are no winter KBO games… The key to preventing departure

The number of monthly users of online video service (OTT) TVING, which won exclusive online broadcasting rights for the KBO League early this year, has reached its highest level this year.

According to Mobile Index on the 5th, the number of monthly active users (MAU) of TVing in October was 8,096,100, the highest this year.

What drove the increase in the number of monthly users of TVing was professional baseball. With exclusive online broadcasting rights for the KBO League secured, TVING’s MAU has been steadily increasing without falling since January (6,563,522). In particular, in October, the MAU increased as the KBO postseason, also known as fall baseball, was held, which attracted a lot of interest from baseball fans. The number of weekly active users (WAU) in the 3rd and 4th weeks of October reached 4.9 million, an increase of approximately 400,000 compared to the 2nd week (4,579,304).

Netflix, the undisputed number one, also recorded 11,909,839 MAU last month, an increase compared to the previous month (11,667,082), but failed to reach its peak. Netflix’s highest record this year was 12,819,483 in January of this year, but fell to 10,960,389 in July. OTTs such as Disney Plus, Wave, Coupang Play, and Watcha are also not showing an increase.

However, as many say that the KBO league effect has had a big impact on the influx of subscribers, attention is focused on whether TVING can prevent the loss of subscribers in the winter season when there are no KBO games. Mr. Kim (28, female), a TVing subscriber, said, “I subscribed to TVing on an advertising-type plan because of the KBO league,” and added, “The only content I watch on TVING is baseball, so I’m thinking about canceling my subscription because the season is over.” Mr. Lee (36, male), who is watching TV on a standard plan, said, “My family members have signed up and are watching, but I only go to watch baseball games, so I don’t think I’ll be going in for a while.”

Starting from the 1st, Tving will be holding the ‘Tving Festa 2024’ promotion, which provides up to 45% discount on annual pass to new annual pass subscribers.
