THE SLOWING PIT-STOPS FROM THE HUNGARY GP

16.06 Thanks for joining us, see you tomorrow for FP3 and qualifying for the F1 2021 Styrian GP. A sporting greeting.

16.04 Overall, the usual duel between Red Bull and Mercedes for victory will take place, even if on this track Max Verstappen seems to have a little more. We remind you that two races in a row will take place here (Styrian GP and Austrian GP), so the Dutchman could try his first, real breakaway in the World Championship.

16.03 The Alpine of Alonso and Ocon, on the contrary, shone in the qualifying simulation, less so in the long-runs.

16.02 Looking at the ranking, we would have to put our hands in our hair for Ferrari. However Sainz and Leclerc used an old power-unit; they also highlighted a convincing race pace. We will see tomorrow how far the Reds can go in qualifying.

16.01 The final classification of free practice 2 of the F1 2021 Styrian GP:

1 Max VERSTAPPEN Red Bull Racing1:05.412 5
2 Daniel RICCIARDO McLaren + 0.336 4

4 Lewis HAMILTON Mercedes+0.384 5
5 Fernando ALONSO Alpine+0.415 3
6 Sebastian VETTEL Aston Martin+0.522 5
7 Country NORRIS McLaren + 0.582 3
8 Lance STROLL Aston Martin+0.667 4
9 Sergio PEREZ Red Bull Racing+0.677 4
10 Antonio GIOVINAZZI Alfa Romeo Racing + 0.733 4
11 Carlos SAINZ Ferrari + 0.735 5
12 Valtteri BOTTAS Mercedes + 0.839 4
13 Charles LECLERC Ferrari + 0.858 5

16.00 CHESS FLAG, FINISH FP2!

15.57 Still good responses from Ferrari on the pace. An upside-down Friday compared to the last ones: bad lap times, convincing long-runs. But it is likely that power-unit 1 (the old one) negatively affected the qualifying simulation.

15.55 1’09 ″ 5 for Verstappen, great lap on the pace (hard compounds). Sainz responds well, 1’09 ″ 8 with the soft (but little fuel?).

15.54 The Ferrari drivers are very active. 23 laps for Sainz with the soft, 23 for Leclerc with the hard.

15.52 Excellent time now for Bottas. Red Bull and Mercedes, as usual, are very close. All the other light years away …

15.51 Already 20 laps covered by Sainz with the soft.

15.50 1’10 ″ 0, Leclerc’s pace on hard tires is very constant.

15.49 Today Ferrari better on the pace than on the flying lap: that at Maranello they have finally changed their approach, focusing more on long-runs on Fridays compared to the ‘tempone’ that makes a sensation?

15.47 Despite a leaden sky on the horizon, the weather held. After a few light drops in the initial stages, the track remained dry.

15.46 It should be noted that Bottas even spun in the pit lane …

15.44 Leclerc’s pace with the hard is not bad. It pays about 4-5 tenths per turn from Verstappen, it fits.

15.42 Verstappen, with the hard, laps faster than Bottas who uses the soft, even if the latter were definitely worn (18 laps).

15.41 Already 20 laps traveled by Vettel with the same set of medium tires.

15.40 Now Verstappen has mounted the hard tires, while Hamilton remains on the soft ones.

15.39 SkySport reports that Ferrari is using an old power-unit.

15.37 Bottas, with soft tires, turns on the pace of 1’10 ″ 1.

15.36 Soft tires for Hamilton, Verstappen and Sainz. Hard for Leclerc.
