TV station cut Trump from “Kevin – Alone in New York”

Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC, has drawn the ire of supporters of US President Donald Trump. The reason is the decision to cut a film scene with Trump from the Christmas film “Kevin – Alone in New York”, released in 1992.

CBC spokesman Chuck Thompson said eight minutes had been removed from the two-hour film to make room for commercials. The decision to do so was made in 2014 – two years before Trump became US President – and not politically motivated.

Decision “pathetic”

Trump’s son Donald Jr., meanwhile, called the broadcaster’s decision “pathetic”. Trump himself also spoke up on the short message service Twitter and said, “The film will never be the same (just kidding)”.

In another tweet, Trump teased Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: “I think Justin T doesn’t like the way I make him pay more for NATO and trade!” The background is a video taken at the NATO summit in London in December . It shows Trudeau and other top international politicians who make fun of Trump.

In “Kevin – Alone in New York” Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) asks Trump in the New York Plaza Hotel, which the real estate entrepreneur owned at the time, for directions. Before his time in politics, Trump also had other short appearances in the cinema – for example in the film “Zoolander” and in “Mein Geist only wants one thing”.
