He is said to have created fake profiles with photos of other men on the dating app. When he found out he was being charged, he immediately pulled the plug on the filming of his show ‘Timmyland’. Den Besten uses his cancer diagnosis as a reason for his absence. In this way he tries to hide the scandal.

Tim den Besten, who became known in the Netherlands for his TV documentaries, is said to have had very sexually explicit conversations on Grindr over the past year and a half, under the identity of three other men. He suggested that the men were present at orgies and allegedly asked other men on the app for nude photos.
The men in question had no idea this was happening until they were personally approached by people who thought they had been having a conversation with them. One victim was even confronted by nine men. “They now think that I organize orgies every weekend. And who knows how many more men have seen me on Grindr? I started to wonder: is there someone around me who deliberately wants to destroy or vilify me? You don’t trust anyone anymore,” he explains in ‘Het Parool’.
Mental health problems
The men found out via Grindr that the messages were sent from van den Besten’s address. The three victims knew him personally. The presenter also followed them on social media. That way he had access to their protected photos. The men, who suffered from psychological problems, confronted Tim three times before going to the police and filing a complaint. Two of them are currently receiving psychological help. The other is afraid of losing his clients in the media world.

Cancer diagnosis as a distraction
As soon as the complaints were filed, den Besten stopped his work. The presenter’s lawyer stated that his presence was related to an illness. It was announced that Tim is suffering from a rare form of cancer. “The precise diagnosis has recently been established and the results of the latest tests are currently awaited before treatment can begin,” it said. But an investigation by ‘Het Parool’ shows that the presenter has known for a long time that he has cancer. He used his diagnosis to distract everyone from the serious complaints against him.
The police are currently investigating the reports and determining which criminal offenses have been committed. Identity fraud, defamation, stalking and obtaining nude photos under false pretenses are currently being investigated. Den Besten has not yet responded to the allegations.
