When Marc Winter looked back over the game, he suddenly had to smile. “We actually only led once,” said the TV Oyten coach with some disbelief. That was enough for an away win on Saturday because the first goal came with 27 seconds left. The Oyten team won 27:26 (11:17) at HSG Delmenhorst and achieved their fourth success in a row in the handball league. “The win was a bit lucky,” admitted Winter.
In front of 130 spectators in the Delmenhorst stadium hall, the Oyteners initially couldn’t find their way into the game. When the guests were 1:6 behind, Winter and his coaching colleague Lars Müller-Dormann took the first time out (10th). After that things went a little better for a short time. Oyten shortened the score to 4:6 (12th), but fell behind again by 11:17 by the break. “We made life difficult for ourselves. In the first half we missed 14 100% chances,” said Winter. But everyone in the cabin remained calm. “We just pointed out that we need to make better use of our free throws,” reported the coach.
Changing goalkeepers pays off
Immediately after the break, Oyten came close to 14:17 (34th), but Delmenhorster held on and initially pulled away to 22:16 (43rd). In the final phase, the guests appeared smarter and more confident than their opponents. For Oyten, Henning Grobler was between the posts in place of Jonas Lüdersen from the 42nd minute. “The goalkeeper change paid off,” said Winter. Above all, nine-time goalscorer Marc Lange shone when it mattered most. The last four goals of the game were all his fault. In the 60th minute, Lange broke through in the middle and scored the winning goal to make it 27:26.
The goal was also celebrated by Jakob Naumann, Oyten’s injured main goalscorer. The suspicion of a torn lateral ligament and meniscus in his knee has not been confirmed. “It’s just stretched and pulled,” Naumann said. According to Coach Winter, he will be out for about three weeks.
