Karlsruhe (tvk). There is one more disappointment in Knielingen after the home game against TSV Viernheim. At 17:31 (9:16) the clarity of the defeat was the real surprise. The South Hessians dominated the game from start to finish and deservedly took the points.
The first minutes of both halves were extremely unfortunate for TVK coach Bernd Feldmann’s men – actually catastrophic right after the half-time break. The home team needed more than five minutes to score the first goal (1:4). How much the Viernheimers are rightly at the top of the table was shown throughout the entire season. They didn’t allow much in defense in front of a very strong goalkeeper and mostly did what they wanted in attack, without the men in yellow’s defense having any lasting grip. The TVK already got the receipt with the score at 7:15 (27th minute of the game). With the half-time whistle, Louis Hohler reduced the score to 9:16, but the large gap was a serious burden for the second half of the game.
Even if the TVK fans hoped for improvement, things actually got worse in the second half of the game. The fan towns didn’t score a single goal in the first nine minutes, but conceded seven goals. The scoreboard showed 9:23 and at this point the numerous spectators in the stands must have noticed a difference in class. The last 20 minutes of the game were at least a little more even. In the end there was a difference of 14 goals, which was the final result (17:31) and, from Knielinger’s point of view, ensured a somewhat unpleasant end to the 2023 handball year.
There was really no need for a great, extensive analysis on the part of the TVK due to the clear result of the game after the end of the game. “What my team showed today was not suitable for the Baden League. The demeanor, the attitude and much more were not good enough to get the points in this league. Of course, the Viernheim goalkeeper had a great day and Viernheim is at the top of the table for good reason. But we didn’t score a goal in nine minutes after the break. That says a lot about our performance today,” says Bernd Feldmann, describing his critical assessment of what happened that evening on the playing surface of the Reinhold Crocoll Hall. The reaction of the TVK supporters was remarkable, as they never stopped cheering on the team and sent the men in yellow off to their sporting Christmas holidays with applause.
The coach’s assessment of the season so far is ambivalent. “In twelve games we got twelve points and gave up just as many. In the moments where we offered a consistent performance, we usually also won points. But there were also games in which we didn’t put in a good performance. The 12:12 points in the table reflect that,” says Bernd Feldmann, whose team starts the new year in eighth place in the table.
