When the elves were presented, it was clear that Italy, among other things, would start with a front trio consisting of Federico Chiesa, Andrea Belotti and Lorenzo Insigne. The former Chiesa competes with, for example, Swedish Dejan Kulusevski for a starting place in the Italian club team Juventus.
With the affected offensive stars from the first minute in Rome, it was the guests who took the lead. Assisted by Noah Okafor, Silvan Widmer scored the first goal of the match.
About 25 minutes after Switzerland’s lead goal, the Italian equalizer arrived. It was defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo who was noted for the equalizer. The assistant was Napoli’s teammate Lorenzo Insigne.
After that, no more goals were scored during the first half, which means that it was a draw when the team stepped off the field for the break.
During the second half, it seemed for a long time that the result would remain a draw, but with only a few minutes left, home-playing Italy got a super position to decide the match.
It was after Domenico Berardi fell in the penalty area that Italy was awarded an eleven-meter kick – which Jorginho, on the other hand, missed. The Italian shot the ball clearly over goal and thus the match ended 1-1.
Ahead of the final group stage of the qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar 2022, Italy and Switzerland are on the same score. Next is the former Italy against Northern Ireland. Switzerland meets Bulgaria.
