Second division team TV Großwallstadt won the 29th Geider Cup in Östringen. The tournament was played in two groups. In group A, the TVG met the 2nd team of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and the TSG Haßloch. At the same time, Wolves Würzburg played in Group B, TV Gelnhausen and HSG Rodgau Niederroden traveled to replace SG BBM Bietigheim.

Coach Michael Roth’s team got off to a good start in the game against the Junglöwen, led 4-1 after five minutes in a fast game against a dynamic team led by former TVG player Lino Messerschmidt and built up this lead with a good defensive performance up to half-time to 15:8 out.

In the second 20 minutes, the opponent started the game a little more alert, but then the blue-whites lived up to their role as favorites and won 26:18.

In the second encounter against TSG Haßloch, TVG found it much more difficult. You started the game completely unfocused, the opponent quickly led with 2.1. There was a lack of effectiveness on the offensive, so that TSG pulled away to 5:2. The Wällster fought back, exploited the opponent’s weaknesses and scored the 6:6 equalizer in the 13th minute of the game. Unfortunately, the game was not continued in a concentrated manner and therefore had to go into the half-time break with a 9:12.

After the change of sides, TV Großwallstadt wanted to make amends, fought back goal by goal and scored the 14:13 lead. The blue and whites consistently extended their lead up to the final score of 24:17 and thus made it into the final.

old acquaintance

The TVG then met an old acquaintance: the Wölfe Würzburg won Group B and were then in the match for first place together with the former derby competitor from Großwallstadt.

Michael Roth started with the variant of the seventh field player, unfortunately with moderate success, the opponent from Würzburg hit the empty goal three times in a row, overran the blue and whites until the time-out at the score of 6:2 in the fourth minute of the game. As the game progressed, the wolves looked fresher and defended their lead until the break (8:12).

After the change of sides, the TVG got into the game better, but didn’t manage to equalize the score, so that Würzburg pulled away again by four goals. The TVG, on the other hand, missed the liveliness, lightness and the final will to win. However, this showed itself at the end of the encounter. The blue and whites fought their way goal by goal and Görkem Bicer scored the equalizer to make it 19:19. 90 seconds of pure excitement followed. Großwallstadt advanced to 20:19, Würzburg did not finish.
