Globo loses appeal and is condemned to compensate goalkeeper for award after game

In the lawsuit, Sidão claims to have gone through a humiliating situation when, in a match in May of that year, playing for Vasco, he conceded three goals to Santos and was still awarded the “Player of the Game” trophy by Globo. At the time, the goalkeeper received 90% of the votes from internet users, “in a clear condition of mockery and humiliation,” according to his complaint.
Sidão questions Globo’s decision to have kept the award ceremony on the field, causing embarrassment to the player. In his request, he demands compensation of R$ 1 million, but the amount was not accepted by the court.
Furthermore, he recalls that the situation occurred on Mother’s Day, and all the players were wearing shirts with the names of their respective mothers. The embarrassment would have been even greater for him, as his mother is deceased and her death triggered depression in Sidão, who managed to overcome it through football.
In the compensation claim, the player considers that the match could have been “a beautiful tribute” to his late mother, but it did not turn out as expected.
Sidão also cites the decline in his career after the episode as justification. He left Vasco and started playing for teams of, according to the lawsuit, “lesser importance,” such as Goiás and Figueirense. At the time the action was filed, the goalkeeper was without a club. Today, at 39 years old, Sidão defends Concórdia.
