TV, Film | Disney removes historic and world-famous trademark

Walt Disney has scrapped one of the most well-known and recognizable brands in the entertainment industry.

The Disney Group has decided to remove the historic brand “20th Century Fox” in its entirety. Disney renames TV company 20th Century Fox Television to only 20th Television, removing both Century and Fox from the trademark, reports CNN.

Already in January, the entertainment giant Fox removed the name from the film company 20th Century Fox, which is now called 20th Century Studios.

Thus, the recognizable brand “20th Century Fox” has ceased to exist.

There has been speculation that Disney wanted to remove the Fox name in order to distance itself from the right-wing and controversial news channel Fox News. Fox Corporation is still the owner of Fox Entertainment, Fox Sports and Fox News.

Replaces old logo

Already this autumn, Disney will replace the old logo with a new logo in new self-produced TV episodes. The logo will still contain the name 20th Television, which is placed behind headlights – minus the words Century and Fox.

Disney will also make changes to ABC trademarks that they also own. Other changes mean that ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios will change to ABC Signature, and Fox 21 Television Studios will change to Touchstone Television.

“Our new studio names and logos mark a new day for ABC Signature, 20th Television and Touchstone Television, while honoring their rich stories and the creative power of The Walt Disney Company,” said Craig Hunegs, President of Disney Television. statement reproduced by BBC.

Agreement worth $ 71 billion

It was last year that Disney formally took over Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox following a historic deal worth $ 71 billion.

As a result, viewer favorites like “Cinderella,” “The Simpsons,” “Star Wars” and “Spiderman” ended up in the same Disney universe. From before, Disney could refer to a portfolio that includes Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm and Pixar.

It was in 2017 that Disney and Comcast started a bidding war over Fox’s entertainment business, but Comcast eventually fell off.
