The head of government said at a press conference on Saturday that a change of president in the United States “could mean, at least initially, even greater competitiveness in the American economy, especially because of energy prices.” ”
– We have a problem. I told myself that I would not talk about those who came before here, but it is worth noting how many tens of billions, or really hundreds of billions, of zlotys were spent and not used for a faster transformation of the Polish energy industry – he argued.
– Not only does Europe have energy that is on average 2.5 times more expensive than the United States, but unfortunately we are at the forefront energy prices – he said.
Prime Minister: I thought for a long time whether I should say it directly, but I will say it
Tusk confirmed, at the last summit in Budapest, “everyone (leaders – ed.) without exception said how we can even talk about the competitiveness of the European economy, including the Polish, if we have the most expensive energy in the world. This is simply impossible.” “.
– I thought for a long time whether I should say it directly, but I will say it directly. Some assumptions regarding CO2 emissions are disarming the European economy, even in cases as obvious as hydrogen energy, he said.
He went on to say that everyone in Europe is currently looking for an answer to the question of what to do with the “environmental criteria that are too strict in the European Union”. As he said, “we cannot pretend that we do not have this dilemma.
– We want to have free energy, we want to compete with the rest of the world, we want to have a competitive economy. We want people to feel safe in Poland also when it comes to energy prices. We have to build a system that gives us the opportunity to compete, at least with the United States in this case, he said.
Tusk on frozen energy prices
– I asked the Minister of Finance to urgently present the way to freeze energy prices, also for the next year – said Tusk. According to him, “these expectations are not the worst for the second half of next year.”
– But to avoid a feeling of uncertainty, the ministers have promised to present me a special project to freeze energy prices for individual consumers in the coming days, but we are also thinking about producers – he said.
– I will not let Poland do badly in this game because of energy prices. Here, ministers know what to do. I will also talk to local government officials (…). We will take appropriate and responsible measures. Coal will not be sustainable in the long term, as we have more expensive energy, the Prime Minister concluded.
