Tusk and the base in Redzikowo. What did he say after meeting Putin?

“The anti-missile shield was created not thanks to Donald Tusk, but despite Donald Tusk’s actions,” said Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference. The former head of the Ministry of National Defense recalled the current Prime Minister’s statements about the construction of an anti-missile base in Redzikowo from several years ago.

Today, the official opening of the American Aegis Ashore anti-missile base in Redzikowo (Pomeranian Voivodeship) will take place with the participation of President Andrzej Duda, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and representatives of the US and NATO authorities.

Equipped with the Aegis Ashore anti-missile system, the base is part of the so-called American an anti-missile shield designed primarily to counter the threat of ballistic attacks from Iran. The shield includes, among others: a similar base in Deveselu, Romania, a radar in Turkey and a command center in Germany.

What did Tusk say after the meeting with Putin?

Before Błaszczak spoke, Donald Tusk was recalled, who said after his meeting with Vladimir Putin that the Russian leader was not “enthusiastic” about the creation of the base.

Today we will probably hear how great a success the December 13 coalition is in opening the anti-missile shield. It is worth recalling what Donald Tusk said about this installation a few years ago

— wrote Mateusz Kurzejewski.

“Tusk multiplied difficulties”

Błaszczak recalled that after Donald Tusk’s government came to power, the issue of the base in Redzikowo was stopped.

Let’s recall the history of the entire project. It was an American initiative to ensure security. The initiative was undertaken by the Polish side when President Jarosław Kaczyński was the Prime Minister of the Polish government. Prime Minister Kaczyński wrote the negotiation instructions in May 2007, and the negotiations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski. After the 2007 elections, when Donald Tusk came to power, the process of slowing down this investment began. Donald Tusk’s government, with Radosław Sikorski as the Minister of Foreign Affairs at that time, multiplied difficulties, thus weakening Poland’s position, threatening the security of our homeland, and undermining our activity in NATO

– said Błaszczak.

The statements presented are statements made after Donald Tusk’s visit to Moscow, after his conversation with Vladimir Putin. (…) Donald Tusk weakened our position, he played for time. In a conversation with President Bush, he presented the threats that Putin was supposed to make in a situation in which an anti-missile facility was to be built. Bush himself dismissed these threats as Putin’s negotiating strategy. Who is anti-Russian? Certainly not Donald Tusk

– noted the former head of the Ministry of National Defense.

Further actions related to this matter. July 4, 2008 comes. Donald Tusk publicly states that he does not consent to the construction of an anti-missile shield. He says that negotiations will continue, but he does not agree. It was July 4th, a US national holiday. Then comes August 20, 2008. The agreement was signed with the then Secretary of the United States, Condoleezza Rice, in the presence of President Lech Kaczyński, and there is no doubt that it was his activity that finally led to the signing of the agreement.

– said the PiS politician.

Please note that the agreement was ratified by the Sejm three years later – in March 2011, even though there was a majority to ratify, because the ruling PO-PSL coalition declared that it would support ratification. PiS also declared that it would support such ratification. All this proves Donald Tusk’s intentions, which were dangerous to the security of our homeland. This is visible in Tusk’s statements during the election campaign, in which he attacked President Donald Trump. This also proves that the current ruling coalition has lost the honorable ability to represent the Polish position in Washington

– he pointed out.

The construction of the anti-missile shield would not have progressed if it were not for the determination of many people who, in these difficult times, actually initiated key talks, starting with the late. President Lech Kaczyński through negotiators – Witold Waszczykowski and other important Polish diplomats and officials

– Marcin Przydacz recalled.

This process was not easy, mainly due to certain inhibiting actions that we witnessed after taking power during the so-called Donald Tusk’s first government. So, during the opening of today’s base in Radzików, let us remember who is the father of actually increasing the security of the Republic of Poland, and who has been pulling the handbrake on these processes for years.

– he added.
