EICKLINGEN. Against Schneverdingen, the first men of the TuS table tennis department narrowly missed a point. But first things first: Only one of the three entry doubles could be won by Scavarda/Pröve. But then three points in a row followed. Both Dirk Söhnholz with a crystal clear 3:0 against the likeable Phieler and Markus Scavarda with a 3:1 win against Niebuhr impressed with extremely strong performances. Tim Söhnholz didn’t take long and defeated Joachim Lesniewski clearly with 3:1 sets despite losing the first set. Then unfortunately there was a break in Eicklinger’s game. One after the other, Jörg Schepelmann, Guido Koch and Carsten Pröve lost to their opponents in 4 sets each. When Dirk also lost out in his second singles despite a 2-0 lead against Niebuhr, the guests were already leading with 6:4 points.

Markus Scavarda, Jörg Schepelmann and Carsten Pröve were then successful in their second encounters. But since Tim and Guido couldn’t do that, Schneverdingen was ahead 8:7 before the final doubles match. In a dramatic final doubles match, the two Eicklingen players Scavarda and Pröve lacked the necessary luck, so Niebuhr/Schombera narrowly won the last game of the evening with 3:2 sets to give Schneverdinger a 9:7 overall victory. “It’s a shame, we certainly deserved a point, but what the heck, we’ll just have to get our points somewhere else.” Such a defiant Captain Pröve right after the last point.

But that wasn’t to be the case the next day in Bomlitz. The TuS lost quite clearly with 3:9 to the young sky strikers from the Heide. There were several reasons for this. Unfortunately, the double weakness continued, as the hosts won all three opening doubles. In addition, Bomlitz won 4 of the 5 three-set games. Only Jörg Schepelmann defeated Sebastian Bachmann over the full distance. Dirk and Tim Söhnholz took care of the other two points.

“With 6:6 points we are still right on schedule, but we have to make sure we get a point or two in the last 3 games of the first series,” said a self-critical captain Pröve after the game.
