“Myself, the pyramids are turning from a zoo into a museum…” With these words, Dr. Zahi Hawass, the famous Egyptian archaeologist, denounced some of the harassment that tourists are exposed to in the pyramids area, such as harassment or persecution by workers there and sellers.

Unacceptable behaviors

During a media interview, he expressed his hope to turn the pyramid into a museum, saying: “I wish the pyramid would turn from a zoo into an open museum befitting the status of Egypt,” criticizing some of the behaviors that tourists are exposed to in the region.

He added that the pyramids area has many aspects that local and international tourists complain about.

He also cited the young men who work in that area, attracting tourists, saying: “When you go to the pyramids, you will find someone who will crush you, and someone who wants to ride you on a camel or a horse. It’s an ugly thing, and of course all tourists complain about it.”

“Won’t visit again”

It is noteworthy that the archaeologist’s words came after he read a statement by a tourist on a website, in which she said that she would not repeat her visit to Egypt again because of harassment and harassment, according to Hawass himself.

He stressed the importance of teaching tourism to primary school students, so that they know the extent of its impact on every home, stressing the need to respect the tourist because tourism is an important resource for hard currency, and is in the interest of the Egyptian national income, he said.

Despite the passage of thousands of years since their construction, the pyramids are still the most powerful symbols of Egyptian civilization today.

The pyramids are not only the goal of every visitor to Egypt, but they are also a source of inspiration for art and cultural life in the countries of the Nile and the world at large, especially since they were built from huge stones that were transported from the Aswan region south of Cairo across the Nile River, which at that time reached the pyramids area.
